Before you arrive

A few things to know before your trip, so arrival is easy.

  1. Your door code

    Your arrival instructions and door code are emailed to the address on your booking on your arrival day. The code starts working at 16:00.

  2. Getting to Kemijärvi

    By train: the night train from Helsinki ends in Kemijärvi. The station is about 850 m from the hotel, a 10-minute walk.

    By bus: buses run to Kemijärvi from Rovaniemi and elsewhere in Lapland.

    By air: the nearest airport is Rovaniemi. We can arrange a transfer if you book it in advance.

    By car: rent a car in Rovaniemi from Insider Car Rental and drive to Kemijärvi in about an hour. Our code ACADEMYHOTEL gives you 10 % off.

Keys & door

Academy Hotel is at Seminaarinkatu 9 in Kemijärvi. The main entrance is the self check-in entrance.

Door code & room key

Your code opens the main door and gets your room key from the key automat in the lobby. It works from 16:00 on your arrival day until about 12:00 on your departure day.

The reception desk in the lobby is not staffed around the clock, but our phone line always answers. If the code or anything else does not work, call us.

Keep your key safe: a lost key costs 300 €, because the lock has to be replaced.

Arriving

  1. Enter your code in the code reader at the main door.
  2. Go to the key automat in the lobby and enter the same code.
  3. The automat gives you your room key.
  4. Room numbers start with the floor: rooms 1xx are on floor 1, 2xx on floor 2 and 3xx on floor 3. Signs show the way.

Leaving

  1. Put the key back into the key automat with the same code.
  2. Travelling as a group? Return the keys to reception.

Breakfast is served 7:00-10:00 in the building next door, a 3-minute walk.

Free Wi-Fi in the whole hotel. The password is on your room's info sheet and in the lobby.

The washing machine in the cellar is free for guests, with detergent and drying racks. Reception can help.

Parking

Free parking in the hotel yard. No booking needed.

House rules

Three house rules:

  • No smoking

    Smoking indoors costs a 500 € fee. You can smoke in the marked smoking area outside, by the yard building.

  • Quiet hours 22:00-07:00

    Let the other guests sleep in peace: no music or loud talking.

  • No shoes in the rooms

    In Finland, shoes come off at the door. It keeps the snow and dirt out.

Around Kemijärvi

Shops & town centre

The nearest grocery store, and the one we recommend, is K-Market, about 200 m away. The town centre is about 1.5 km, an easy walk.

Sights & trails

Reception has maps with the sights and outdoor trails marked. Visit Kemijärvi's website has more.

Tap water

Finnish tap water is clean and safe to drink. Refill your bottle before you head out.

In an emergency

Call 112. Exit routes are on the inside of your room door.

The assembly point is the car park opposite the hotel. Fire extinguishers are signposted in the shared areas, and the first aid cabinet is in the lobby.

For non-urgent care, go to the Kemijärvi health centre. The pharmacy is at the ABC station.
